LGBTQ Parenting Network -- Criteria for eNewsletter Content

The LGBTQ Parenting Network eNewsletter (eNewsletter) is a bi-monthly online newsletter produced and distributed (via email) to eNews subscribers.

Persons may subscribe to the eNewsletter at LGBTQ Parenting Network (PN) events and courses or online on our website home page.

It is the mandate of the LGBTQ Parenting Network to provide resources, information and support to LGBTQ parents, prospective parents and their families. The eNewsletter is designed to provide reliable, up-to-date information on upcoming events, support groups, news and research projects relevant to lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer (LGBTQ) prospective parents, parents and families.

The eNewsletter posts information on the following:

1. LGBTQ Parenting courses, support groups and programs (for LGBTQ prospective parents, parents and families).
2. LGBTQ Family events (events specifically designed for, or to be inclusive of, LGBTQ parents and their families)
3. Research projects (projects focusing on, or designed to be inclusive of, LGBTQ prospective parents, parents, and their families) looking for participants (Note: All research projects must first apply for and receive approval from SHC. To receive an application form contact parentingresources@sherbourne.on.ca)
4. LGBTQ parenting news related items.

Selection Criteria

The content included in the eNewsletter is determined by the following criteria:

1. The content relates to the interests, well-being and needs of LGBTQ prospective parents, parents and their families.
2. The content informs eNews subscribers of new, upcoming events relating to LGBTQ parenting and/or families*
3. The content is submitted by a reputable, LGBTQ positive organization or group
4. The content demonstrates appropriate cultural sensitivity
5. The content is of some benefit to LGBTQ parents, prospective parents and families.

* The focus of this newsletter is on information relevant to persons living in the Greater Toronto Area, but this is not a qualifier for inclusion in the newsletter.

Reviewing Content

All events, programs, courses, support groups and research submitted for inclusion in the eNewsletter is reviewed first by PN staff for compliance with the selection criteria. We may decide to reject content that does not comply with our Content Selection Policy. In addition, content that is made up mostly of advertising, sales pitches and content that is discriminatory or offensive will be rejected.

Submitting Content

Persons or organizations wishing to submit content for the eNewsletter should email text (either in the content of the email or in an attached Word document) to parentingresources@sherbourne.on.ca. If the content relates to an upcoming event or meeting, content should be submitted at least 2 weeks prior.
